JAM-becue fun

Sister was in town last weekend and the timing was perfect in that she could join us for Heather‘s neighbors’ {and landlords} annual “Jam-becue”! Food, live music and lots of Felton folk.

Things got real crazy when we started playing corn hole. Just look at Heather’s face. {sorry Heather, had to post these!}

Sister won every single game and was pretty proud of herself after:

And in case you’ve never seen a banana slug, well, here you go.
This little slime thing lives in the redwoods and is also the mascot of University of California Santa Cruz.Viscous isn’t it?

Family time

Rob’s family came out earlier this month and they never cease to disappoint when it comes to spontaneity. Beside our 10 mile hike through the redwoods, late-night smores by the beach and donut cravings, the fam decided to have a sand castle building contest. The guy next to Rob? Some random kid who wandered over and wanted to help Rob judge. SO funny.

To Do in Santa Cruz: Santa Cruz MAH

Looking for something to do on the weekend? Hit up the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History. With an admission fee of $5, it pans out to be a pretty cheap day activity! Heather and I wanted to see the ‘All you need is love’ exhibit {sound familiar?}. I can only say that I was propelled to talk about love after the exhibit! We absolutely ‘LOVED’ it.

Rob and I do this, too:

It was full of emotion, inspiration and hands-on activities. See more pictures from the exhibit on Heather’s blog.

After the museum, stroll over to the pier for clam chowder and seal gazing.

Lately, Life, Santa Cruz

Living in Central Cal

Now that we’ve been here a few weeks, I’ve quickly adapted to life living on the central coast, where there is weather, trees and endless ocean air.

Here are just a few things I’ve recently learned:

  • When taking clothes out of the closet, shake violently in case of spiders. This also applies to shoes, sheets, blankets, and towels.
  • At stop signs it helps to signal.
  • When reversing, you should always look behind you.
  • With the rain come ants.
  • Just because it’s sunny doesn’t mean it’s warm.
  • Always wear a beanie when running on the beach, or your ears will freeze off.
  • If it smells like skunk in the house, it’s just Tacoma.
  • When in doubt, leave the insect alone.
  • Stop and smell the roses, literally.
  • Toms and sandals are not good shoes to wear in the rain.
  • If you leave your sun roof open in your car, a raccoon WILL hang out in your car all night.
  • The beach is amazing, but not when you have to constantly sweep it up in your house.
  • The farmer’s market might be my favorite part of the weekend.
  • And last but not least, breathing in the ocean air every day really does make you happier. And I’m convinced that’s why everyone here are so incredibly friendly – because they’re all very happy!

Happy weekend!
