An update on my frame

Remember the succulent frame I made back in May? Well, it’s doing great.

There are a couple that are being stubborn and not rooting so I put some more soil in and am going to wait a few more weeks before I hang. Also, Heather and I have another DIY project coming up… so excited to share it with you! I’ll give you a clue, it involves a window and chalk!

Friends, San Juan Bautista

To eat in San Juan Bautista: La Casa Rosa

Heather had a Groupon to La Casa Rosa in San Juan Bautista for lunch, wine & sorbet, so we took a short drive into the San Juan Valley on Saturday. San Juan Bautista has a darling downtown, lined with antique shops and Spanish flare. La Cosa Rosa was the perfect girly outing – the restaurant itself was a blushing pink.

As soon as you walk in, it’s like you’re walking into your Grandma’s house.

We opted for a seat on the patio.

The ambiance on the patio was lovely. Our shady table was even lovelier. Menus were pink, wine was chilled… they even had a marmalade bar for your fluffy rolls. What was for lunch? Old California Casserole, New California Casserole or Chicken Souffle. We decided on the New California Casserole with the Monterey Jack cheese and green chiles. Heather described it as a ‘Spanish lasagna’. I don’t know if it was the perfectly cooked polenta or the marinara, but my mouth was so happy. The way they presented it was also pretty memorable – served hot right out of the oven. But the best part might have been the strawberry sorbet. I could have had a second helping.

To give you a little taste of the kind of service La Casa Rosa provides, try getting served by the owner himself! Charlie Shockey checked in with us, talked to us about the history of his restaurant and the food, and chuckled at us while we took his picture as we were leaving. He was the friendliest, most personable man, mingling with everyone at the restaurant.

After lunch we went antiquing and walked through the Mission. Check out Heather’s blog for more on the Mission. Here’s a sneak peak:

Hope you all had a nice weekend! :)

Farmer's Market flowers

Lavender in vases

Rob and I have some time between family and friend visits so we’ve been spending our weekends decorating our little cottage. Heather bought me these wall vases from Pottery Barn YEARS ago, and I’m still in love with them. They’re so perfect for any room, and now I have a place to put my farmer’s market flowers that won’t attract ants!

The lavender smells so wonderful.
Capitola

Cute Capitola

Sometimes the marine layer lasts all day in Aptos. Our beach was still cloudy on Sunday so we decided to catch some rays in sunny Capitola, the little beach town I work in. Capitola is famous for its jewel box – these vibrant, ocean-front beach rentals:

You can’t stop into Capitola without getting ice-cream from Cafe Violette.

It was a lovely afternoon!
