Chether

Heather sent me this picture the other day and it cracks me up. This is so us. In all our goofiness. We were at the Santa Cruz Art Museum and spent like an hour in front of this wacky mirror. The little things really do amuse us.

To eat in San Juan Bautista: La Casa Rosa

Heather had a Groupon to La Casa Rosa in San Juan Bautista for lunch, wine & sorbet, so we took a short drive into the San Juan Valley on Saturday. San Juan Bautista has a darling downtown, lined with antique shops and Spanish flare. La Cosa Rosa was the perfect girly outing – the restaurant itself was a blushing pink.

As soon as you walk in, it’s like you’re walking into your Grandma’s house.

We opted for a seat on the patio.

The ambiance on the patio was lovely. Our shady table was even lovelier. Menus were pink, wine was chilled… they even had a marmalade bar for your fluffy rolls. What was for lunch? Old California Casserole, New California Casserole or Chicken Souffle. We decided on the New California Casserole with the Monterey Jack cheese and green chiles. Heather described it as a ‘Spanish lasagna’. I don’t know if it was the perfectly cooked polenta or the marinara, but my mouth was so happy. The way they presented it was also pretty memorable – served hot right out of the oven. But the best part might have been the strawberry sorbet. I could have had a second helping.

To give you a little taste of the kind of service La Casa Rosa provides, try getting served by the owner himself! Charlie Shockey checked in with us, talked to us about the history of his restaurant and the food, and chuckled at us while we took his picture as we were leaving. He was the friendliest, most personable man, mingling with everyone at the restaurant.

After lunch we went antiquing and walked through the Mission. Check out Heather’s blog for more on the Mission. Here’s a sneak peak:

Hope you all had a nice weekend! :)

Pie & patio party

In case you saw my summer bucket list – you would have seen I wanted to throw a pie party. I did this past weekend and it was crazy awesome. Since the 4th of July fell on a Wednesday this year, I decided to keep the red, white and blue theme going. First, us ladies got our bake on:

While the pies baked {or froze}, we enjoyed the party on the patio with the boys {from the left: Olive, Katy, Heather & me}. Our aprons were so comfy we about stayed in them the entire time:

We were all so hungry that we forgot to take pictures of the chicken BBQ sandwiches and slaw and beautiful sides. {sad face}
When the pies were done, we all did some pie-tasting!

For more on the pie-baking and recipes, check out Heather’s blog!

It was great to sit by the fire and watch the day come to a close with new friends {and one old}. I loved having people over.. I’ve been DYING to throw a party, hahaha.

A farewell in black & white

My sister threw us the nicest farewell party last weekend at the Grigio. It was a lovely night with our friends and family, where we mingled, ate cake and toasted to new beginnings! Here are the pics from the party, portrait style:

Love how my Dad is getting ready to flip someone off. Hahaha

I’m going to miss them all so much. Can’t believe we’re really moving!

A nacho & hot dog bar

Our friend Sandy turned 30 this past weekend (Gus’ mom) and we went over to their darling house in downtown Phoenix for a little backyard party.
We’d been looking forward to it for a few weeks, knowing they were going to have a hot dog and nacho bar!!!!

The nacho and hot dog bar was absolutely DELICIOUS. There were so many spices and flavors fusing together in my mouth! That’s all I can say. Hahahaha My mouth starts watering just thinking about it.

Here were some other fun details from the party:

Love what Steph did with the sucker gift idea I had:

We also got to bring Tacoma and Lucy. Gus got his hands on a hot dog bun and went to town. Then what did my dog do? She went right up to him and took a chunk of it for herself!

Which is not good for the new bikini diet I have her on.

Tacoma was so tired on the way home. Isn’t he beautiful?!

Love these sisters! Happy Birthday Sandy!
