Cher Joy

Cher joy

I’ve been living in a doggy dog world this past week. Lots of dogs in the office and pet-sitting too. The weather keeps getting better and better, and we’re loving it. This weekend we found ourselves not wanting to leave Aptos. You could have found us napping on the beach, walking the dogs with coffees in hand or sitting close at Bittersweet Bistro {our new favorite place!}. Here’s what brought me joy last week:

  1. Wally! My friend, Michelle’s, dog is the cutest corgi EVER.
  2. Hugo’s visit to the office for a marketing meeting.
  3. Mornings at my office.
  4. Our afternoon run along the beach.

What brought you joy last week? Look at these cute “happiness” idea series Oh Joy! started. Brilliant!

Lucy, Tacoma

Sibling love

Give these two bones and they’ll steal from each other. Lucy will hide hers and forget where she hid it, then steal Tacoma’s. Then they’ll fight over it. It’s the cutest thing in the world. Tacoma is such a sweet brother. He always plays at her level and lets her bite on long enough to get excited. Love them.

Rocking out to Roxette

Friday night we took hot coffee to the beach, collected shells by the light of our iPhones and popped a squat to watch the Aptos fireworks. After the extravaganza {and my scare of seeing mer-people}, we drove back to our cottage. On the way back I started singing something so incredibly random, which included the lyrics “She’s so dangerous” {don’t ask me how I started singing this}, and it somehow sparked Rob’s memory of a Roxette song he listened to with his mom when he was younger. The song? Dangerous, by Roxette.

As we started going through their old songs and videos, I realized how many songs I knew! We bought the greatest hits CD and rocked out all weekend. I’m confident you know this group; they’re famous for “It Must Have Been Love” from Pretty Woman. But, I’m almost certain that “Dangerous” is my fave now:

What’s your favorite 80s/90s group?! Please share. I also love Wham!

It’s Sunday and I’m reflecting. The week was a busy one, and I’m sad the weekend is coming to an end already. Made a butternut squash apple bisque tonight and am watching Practical Magic with some candles lit. Leaves are changing and falling, pumpkins are for sale and the days are warm. I’m loving October and cherishing every sunrise and sunset. Here’s what brought me joy last week {sticking to my new thing}:

{Left to right}

  1. Tacoma’s new collar for the season(s).
  2. Fireworks in October.
  3. My bed time ritual – sleepy time tea and A Game of Thrones.
  4. Heather‘s surprise Calligraphy gifts, an October calendar and wine note. You need to hire her.

DIY: Cork board

When your husband breaks things, you need to improvise; and I do a lot of improvising. His mother warned me that he breaks things, but it’s sort of now what I love about him and, sort of the joke of our household, to see what he’ll break next. When we were framing our pictures from Europe, Mr. Johannes broke the glass of one of the IKEA frames. So, I improvised and made a cork board. I’ve been saving almost every wine cork I could get my hands on over the last 5 years. Parties, restaurants, toasts, Grandma’s house, girls’ nights, etc. I have a plentiful supply of corks, boxes of corks even. First thing I did, poured myself a glass of wine {of course}. Second – got the gorilla glue out and went to work. I used the backside of the back of the frame to glue the corks to, and laid books over the finished corks to help each dry in place. Somehow, I forgot to take picture of these steps. But look – it’s so pretty!

I heart it.
