The minute we touched down in Kauai, things just slowed down. The first thing I noticed about Kauai was the air. It’s seriously magical. There was just the right amount of breeze and humidity. The temperature was perfect. We picked up the rental car and started for Poipu. Once we took the turn towards Poipu, we knew we were in a special place. The most gorgeous trees lined the street, all the way to the beach. All I can say is Kauai was everything I thought it’d be, and MORE. When people say that Hawaii is where happiness lives – they weren’t kidding! We checked into our hotel, ordered a Blue Hawaii and spent the rest of the night catching up with Pam. Maybe Kauai was such a happy place for me because I got to see my sister!! ;)

Miss Heather came across Yvette Van Boven’s Homemade Cookbook at the Bookshop of Santa Cruz, and thought it’d be the perfect gift for her Mom who loves to cook at home. Before she sent it off, we flipped through all the summer-themed recipes. AMAZING. I’m now in love with this woman! What a great gift idea, especially for a foodie friend! If you’re attending a summer birthday party, housewarming or wedding, consider this great “summer” themed gift. The recipes are seriously mouth-watering. If I’m ever in Amsterdam, I’m going to her restaurant!
And she also has a Homemade Winter edition. Look at that pear slice. I’m sold!
By the third day in Hawaii, our hearts were done for. We were in love. On our last day with Michelle and David, we got in as much as possible. First we hiked Diamond Head and experienced the best view of Honolulu.
Then we set off for the North shore, past the Dole pineapple fields {I did NOT know that pineapples grew above ground!}, to the beautiful beaches the locals swarm to for surfing.
First stop was shave ice!
The boys played 9 holes, while Michelle and I basked in the Hawaiian sun.
Then a late lunch at the Shrimp trucks. The scampi was AMAZING.
We ended the day back on our side of the island, with dinner at Roy’s to celebrate Michelle & David’s anniversary.
It was a great day. We loved Oahu!!!
It’s that time of year again — summer! Just like last summer, I wanted to make my bucket list for the coming months. A little to-do list to accomplish before the Fall. You’ll see a reoccurring theme below — it involves the word “GO!”. Here we go!
1. Plant lavender.
2. Host a Pinterest party.
3. Have a picnic at Baker Beach.
4. Frame some pictures {our walls are so horribly bare!}
5. Go to a movie on the beach.
6. Go camping – I’m resurrecting this from last year.
7. Go to Lake Tahoe.
8. Finish my reading list from last summer – and the books I’ve started this year already and haven’t finished! I’m so lame.
9. Attend a meditation session {carrying this over from last year, too}
A little less than my list from last year, but hopefully more do-able this time! :) What are your plans for the summer?
Heather and I decided to kick off summer with a little outdoor spa day — which encompassed lunch, some mood music on the record player, herbal pedicures and strawberry oatmeal facials. Our friend, Loni, was able to join us, too! It was such a wonderful day of girl chat, snacking, soaking our toesies and laughing hysterically over the strawberry mush we put on our faces.
Ingredients for our herbal pedicure:
Mix together, lather onto face and leave on for 5-10 minutes. Beware, it looks like puke on your face.
Summer is here in Central California and I’m SO excited!!!
