Estrogen overload

Last weekend miss Heather and I had an incredibly GIRLY weekend. When the boys aren’t around, we like to get away with an estrogen loaded, chick day. Here’s an hr by hr of our girls night {which started after I locked my keys in the truck down the hill and had to have a locksmith come out}:

The Downton Abbey marathon started with scones and iced-tea.

After a couple episodes, we brought out the charcuterie.

Then we got the preparations for dinner started.

Wine journal time.

Chicken dinner {my first time making a whole chicken}!

Nail painting, calligraphy and more Downton – there may have been some tears {damn you, Downton!}. Heather’s nail polish fetish is so wonderful.

Ice-cream for episode six.

After passing out in a food coma, we woke up the next day and had breakfast nachos and watched two more episodes. Felt like we were college roomies again!

What are your girl nights like? Please tell me they’re as silly and food-filled as ours ;)

12 Dates of Christmas, Friends, Phoenix

A festive night

Our Christmas vacation wouldn’t be the same without seeing our best friends Jack & Kristin. We planned a festive night of charcuterie, cocktails, dinner and ice-skating. The cocktails were delightful, as were the caramel chile popcorn, Shishito Peppers and Cheddar Scallion Biscuits. After we shared dinner and talked into the hours of the night, we walked outside for ice-skating in downtown Phoenix, right before they closed. It was such a nice night to catch up with our friends and enjoy some Phoenix festivities.

A Friendsgiving

This Thanksgiving we stayed in Santa Cruz and invited Heather over for a FRIENDSgiving. We split up the menu and while the turkey cooked, we pulled out all the Thanksgiving episodes of Friends and watched. Us three are annoyingly obsessed with Friends. We quote it, we live it, we love it {don’t ever try to play us in Friends Scene It, you’d lose}. We even tried to dress the part. We lounged, snacked on some appetizers and enjoyed our Thanksgiving together around the dinner table. Everything was delicious. It was a change to not be around our families for Thanksgiving, but a Friendsgiving was just as wonderful to us this year. And I still got my own helping of candied yams so I was happy.

I think I used every single dish I own, hahahaha. Now, I’m a total pumpkin pie snob, being that it’s my all time favorite pie, and I’m going to brag a little here and say that my first home-made pumpkin pie turned out perfect! I completely surprised myself! Did you try any new recipes this year?

Check Heather’s blog for more Friendsgiving pictures and her pecan pie.

Food, Friends, Moss Landing

To eat in Moss Landing: Phil’s Fish Market

After a couple hours of kayaking on Sunday, we stayed in Moss Landing and ate at Phil’s Fish Market. It’s this little market on the harbor, just steps away from a gorgeous stretch of beach. We ordered shrimp, calamari and their famous {and raved about on the Food Network} Cioppino. It was the perfect dish for Fall – full of hot clams, scallops, mussels, crab, halibut and calamari.

On our way out we took a slice of their carrot cake to go. What a great day!

Friends, Santa Cruz

Log ride fun

The last day with our friends we spent in downtown Santa Cruz. After the trolley to the beach and lunch on the pier, we all went on the log-ride on the Boardwalk. It was hoot.
