Jace at 1 month

Mister Jace is 1 month today! Where did the last 4 weeks go?! The days have sort of blurred together. Things still feel surreal to me, but I’m going with it! Right now Jace loves to be jiggled, rocked and massaged — loves car rides and strolls to the beach, and skin-on-skin cuddles. He makes great eye contact and is slowly starting to look around and focus on things. He is very aware of his hands and loves to kick his legs {and my boobs – ouch}. He is exercising his smile muscles and oohs and aahhs. It’s funny to hear him grunt and make noises. I really can’t get enough of him. I’m totally one of those obsessed moms now. I just can’t control the love I feel for this little man! I’m so happy I had a boy. He’s so cool!

Jace’s first trip to Woodstock’s

Woodstock’s Pizza in Santa Cruz holds a special place in our hearts. It was where we decided to have a baby. It was a regular ‘ol weekday {or maybe it was a Friday?}, this time last year. We were craving pizza and wings and Woodstock’s is usually our go-to spot in Santa Cruz. Out of no where, we started talking about our “plan” for a baby. We decided together, right then, to make it a reality sooner rather than later. We didn’t want to wait any more. We cried and held hands and realized that we had made a NEW plan = to get pregnant within the next few months, if at all possible. So, it seemed only right to get Jace there as soon as possible to complete our journey! Of course, he slept the whole time, so we’ll have to get him back there again real soon ;)

Our day with Renee Fox Photography

When Jace was 8 days old, we went over to my friend, Renee’s, home studio to take some newborn pictures! I’ve always wondered how these were done, since most of the newborn pictures I see are of babies sleeping and peaceful, all curled up in weird positions. Miss Renee knew all the secrets to make our little boy cozy and happy, with heated blankets, white noise makers, space heaters and ssshhhing. Maybe a little too well. . . . we sure did have a lot of *accidents*. Baby boy first peed on Daddy. Then, when we moved him to the couch he peed on that, too. We felt so bad! I had requested close-up shots of all his little features and she did just that {even some of his newborn peach fuzz}! Thank you, Renee, for capturing such sweet pictures of our little boy {I promise to include some couch cleaner in our thank you gift!}. I don’t want this newborn phase to end and will cherish these photos for life.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Best 2 weeks of my life

These last 2 weeks have been so wonderful. We are beyond blessed to have a healthy baby boy, and each other. It was so nice to have Rob home on paternity. I recommend this for all new parents — it’s truly magical. It’s just been us three, every day, hanging out. All we do is stare at him and admire every little inch of his body. I then usually start crying. I even cry at the thought of him growing up, or being any older than he is right now.  We totally created this little man! These postpartum hormones are insane. I want to blame it on the sleep deprivation but I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m so incredibly in love {might also be all the prolactin {or oxytocin} in my system from breastfeeding?}. Whatever it is, I want more of it. I’m soaking up every minute I can get with Jace and Rob. It’s really been the best 2 weeks of my life. Not only did I get to spend every day with my husband {my favorite person!}, but we got to enjoy our son together, without the stress of work or other obligations. Parenthood is scary as hell but exhilarating at the same time. Although I feel like life revolves around my boobs right now, I’m still enjoying my time with little boy and feel almost fully recovered. Thank you, God, for giving us this time together and for our beautiful boy.

Here’s what we’ve been up to these first 2 weeks with our SON {!!!}.
{conquering the swaddle — I’d say we’re almost pros. I do want to try the miracle blanket version next}
{a lot of sleeping — and staring — and pictures}
{car rides to Dr. appointments and around town}
{morning stroller walks with Jace down to Pixie Deli for some sunshine and breakfast}
{moments where we just smile at each other.  I know, we’re cheesy.}
{Valentine’s Day breakfast — Rob even made the eggs heart-shaped!}
{Jace’s first photo shoot with Renee Fox Photography — poor Daddy got peed on}

We’ve also been watching The Office non-stop. It’s one of those shows for us that we could watch over and over again, and it never get old. We still laugh every time. And strangely enough, my appetite has tripled since coming home from the hospital. I feel like I want to eat as often as little boy. Gotta feed the boobs I say! Starting this week, we’ll have visitors for the next 3 weeks, back to back. Rob returned to work, so I’m looking forward to having some extra hands around the house again and for someone to visit with! I’m dying to socialize, haha. My sister arrives first and I have a lot planned for us — can’t wait! Have a great week friends!

Jace, Pregnancy

We made a human

{After 11 hours of labor, our baby boy is here!!!!!}

This is already a whole new kind of love for me. I look at him and my heart wants to burst out of my chest. Tears fill my eyes. I can’t breathe or talk. He is beyond perfect. And what’s so special to me, is we made him. We created this little guy. He’s what I was carrying for 9 months! I love the way he smells, his blonde hair, his big feet. I love his cheeks and chubby arms. His blue eyes. I love it all!!! AGH!!!
