Scenes from the weekend

Hi friends. Hope you all had a nice Memorial Day weekend! My parents came into town for the weekend and we had such a great time. I love the days leading up to a visit with my family. Each phone call we sound more giddy and bubbly than the last. You know when you can hear someone smile on the phone? Well, we do a lot of smiling on the phone leading up to a long weekend together. I don’t know who they were more excited to see, Rob or Jace, ha. Sometimes I feel like I’m old news compared to those two. They’re such characters. I must be boring ;). We tried to keep things low-key, which means I didn’t plan a million things for us to do, like I normally do. However, we did hit up the farmer’s market in Aptos, made a lot of home-cooked meals together and ventured out to 17-mile drive for a cruise along the ocean. Every time my parents come into down we have the most beautiful weather. Never has it rained while they’ve been here. Seeing them cuddle Jace and make noises and talk to him touched my heart. It’s so fun to watch him look at their faces and smile. He’s so much fun right now and something inside of me is breaking knowing they can’t see him each week and watch him learn new things. When Jace went to bed, we watched movies and talked on the back patio, and laughed at Talking Tyler. Such a good time. It was pretty hard to say goodbye at the airport. This California dream sure is bittersweet sometimes. Well, anyway, here were some of the scenes from over the weekend.

I’m back!

Well, we are in Santa Cruz and all settled in! And I must say, it’s absolutely breathtaking. Crystal-clear, cold mornings, fragrant flower beds, the smell of the ocean, sand in your feet, locally churned ice-cream… Shall I go on?

My Dad and sister made the drive up with us to help us unpack and get situated. And we’re so happy they did. This past weekend is one we’ll certainly remember always. We basically spent every minute together and it was wonderful. Once all the boxes were unpacked, we spent the rest of the weekend driving around. Saturday we spent the day around Monterey Bay. My Dad wanted to see Pebble Beach and the redwoods. So, we did!

Before we did the scenic, 17-mile road drive, we stopped first at the Spanish Bay Inn for cocktails and the ocean view on the patio.

Then we continued on the coastal drive.

We finally got to Pebble Beach. My Dad was ecstatic to be on the 18th hole (or near it).

Before they flew back on Sunday, we went for a walk through the redwoods.

I was sad to see them go. They were so kind to have made the trip up and did so much to help us get settled in to our little cottage in the hills. Did I mention that we can see the ocean as we come out of our driveway? Well, we can. Again, it’s a little surreal up here.

Thanks Pam and Dad for all your help!!!
