Halloween in these parts

thumb_IMG_6845_1024Hi friends. It’s officially time for Halloween things! It’s still in the 90s here, but that isn’t stopping me from planning out some fall adventures for us. I don’t have a lot of Halloween decorations, but I do love my vintage hat and gloves; I get them out every year. Plus, I can always rely on Trader for cute pumpkin porcelain vases with succulents. Here’s our plans for this Halloween season:

  • Vertuccio Farms .. it was such a blast!
  • Schnepf Farms  .. next weekend!
  • Pumpkin carving (no pineapples this year, just pumpkins with Jace!)
  • Volunteering at the Great Pumpkin Festival at the Desert Botanical Garden
  • Then a masquerade at our Casa, passing out candy and eating charcuterie (found our masks at the Dollar store!)
  • And don’t forget movie night .. I can’t let this month go by without watching Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic
  • We’ve also been busy making some of our favorite fall dishes, including turkey chilibeef stew and pumpkin spice muffins

What are some of your favorite Halloween traditions??

I just signed up for We Cook (!!)

we-cook-kit-9b7301472591f1df55f6b0cb05e3d53fI’ve been DYING to know what Baby Boy Bakery has been secretly working on and the minute I found out about her new site and monthly We Cook kits, I pre-ordered and subscribed for 12 months. Whole heartedly. Then I spent most of the night visiting every page on her new website and looking at pictures of sweet Ryan. Jacqui, if you ever read this, I think you are so strong and so brilliant. I cry often about Ryan and for you and Dan; we think of you almost every week and keep you in our prayers. And I’m so happy that you want to share your recipes and tips with us moms out here so we can find joy in cooking with our own littles. To take that love for Ryan and what you shared in the kitchen together, to then share it out with the world so we can experience the same thing. Wow. You are one amazing woman. Ryan is very proud of you.  I can’t wait for the first kit to arrive in November … Jace is going to loooove the fruit roll-ups. And I’m already hoping for a smoothie recipe kit! ;) I’m also excited for the free recipe binder (so cute!). For more about We Cook, visit Jacqui’s newly launched Baby Boy Bakery website and also spend some time looking over Ryan’s cute face here.

Congrats Baby Boy Bakery!!!!

Hello friends! The weekend is almost over. Noooooooooo! I don’t want it to end. What would life be like if we didn’t have jobs? And everything was free. (sigh) It was a long week for me, and a busy weekend. But all good though. There was actually, genuinely a lot of good and joy in this past week, and even just in the two days of the weekend. I really could call out a lot, like my birthday, or my barre and brunch date with a friend, talking about motherhood and life, or breakfast at my parents’ house, watching Jace play his new guitar, or simply hanging out at the house with my boys, dancing to the Beach Boys on Pandora. Plus, it was my birthday “weekend”, which involved a long over due pedicure, shopping and Italian food! Oh and we hit a new phase this weekend, too – Jace is now that size where he can push his own mini shopping cart at Trader Joe’s. It’s so ridiculously cute (see above)! He shops like mommy, too and puts everything he sees in the cart, haha. So without further ado, here is what brought me joy last week:

#1. A week night that involved Friends, apple pie and Tillamook’s Oregon Hazelnut & Salted Caramel ice-cream. Please pardon the paper plate.

#3 – Surprise birthday delivery from my sister. Sunflowers are so happy and bright. Love them. Thank you sister! XOXOXO

thumb_IMG_6709_1024#4. My really birthday celebration last night with Rob. We ate at North (amazing kale salad and Bolognese) and then went to Chicago after, at the Phoenix Theatre. Incredible dinner. Incredible show!! Such a nice night with my man.

I’m 32 today.

thumb_IMG_6705_1024After a 14 hour day at work, I’m home. And it’s my birthday. Another year behind me. I don’t know about you, but time seems to only speed up the older you get. I was 29. Now I’m 32?! Slow down life!  I woke up pretty cheery this morning and went to Liberty Market with my boys to enjoy a free breakfast. We ordered the cinnamon roll that’s the size of a human head and the blueberry scone. It was perfect. Then I arrived to work to a box full of Bosa donuts (I think my work peeps know I have an obsession with sweets). Between text messages and Facebook messages and voicemails (and surprise flowers from my sister!), I actually had an incredibly productive day at work. Lots of great meetings and brainstorm sessions, then lunch with the girls. After work I attended some planned focus groups for my product line and then my team surprised me with Gigi’s cupcakes! I’ve literally had more sugar today than the average person should have in their lifetime, haha. Still on a sugar high of some sort right now, or maybe it’s a high from the day! I usually dread my birthday, in a way. I really don’t like extra attention. I’d rather things be about someone else. Sure, if you get me a gift I’ll freak out, but usually I don’t want any special treatment. But, for some reason I just went with it today. I smiled for the “Happy birthdays” and talked about my plans and wrote quick thank yous to all who texted and called and Facebooked. Maybe I’ve finally grown up. But what I’m realizing now at the end of my birth day is how many truly amazing people I have in my life, who go out of their way to make me feel special. One being my husband. I came home to more flowers, one my favorite red blends, the s’more bites I’m obsessed with from Trader and a card signed by Jace.  Thanks sweetie, and thanks to all my wonderful friends and family. You know who you are. XOXOXO

I love what I see.

IMG_5970I totally have a kid living in my house. And I love it. I have the alphabet magnet letters for the fridge and chalk on my sidewalks. The toy trails ..  the messy dinners, the new coffee table material and cotton ball fights. And you can’t forget Cars in the tub and the stuffed animal hug parties. Jace is also getting taller by the minute. I’m seriously having a blast with Jace .. he makes me want to be more creative and adventurous. I’m so excited to be a part of his childhood and really hope I can make it great. Game on Jace face!
