Dealing with fear

I’m a BIG fan of Sheryl Sandberg’s book, “Lean In”, and am feeling a spark of motivation. Motivation to keep following my dreams, to have it all – whatever I make to be “it all”. The following excerpt really jumped out at me:

“Fear is at the root of so many of the barriers that women face. Fear of not being liked. Fear of making the wrong choice. Fear of drawing negative attention. Fear of overreaching.. Fear of being judged. Fear of failure. And the holy trinity of fear – – – the fear of being a bad mother/wife/daughter. Without fear, women can pursue professional success and personal fulfillment. And freely choose one or the other or both.”

It’s so true isn’t it? I feel like I have little doses of fear in my every day. What would you do if you weren’t afraid, as Mrs. Sandberg would say? Me? . . . lots. Like get my Masters, teach body pump, or wear red lipstick.

I now have this on my desk as a daily reminder to “lean in”. . . ;)

Pinterest party for 3

A couple of weekends ago I crossed something else off my summer bucket list — host a Pinterest Party. It was a small party, but still fun! I’d been dying to paint some stemless wine glasses ever since I saw this pin on Pinterest. I followed these DIY steps, and picked some yellows to paint with.

{I was super pleased with my new wine glasses}

Miss Katy made little sewing kits out of mason jars for her sisters.

Another week has flown by here in Santa Cruz. Wish life would slow down sometimes. We had our 16 week appointment this past week and all is well. When we walked out, I realized that pregnancy is sort of romantic. It’s intimate and new. That feeling of wandering into the unknown, not knowing what to expect; a little scary, but really exciting. We couldn’t be happier. I’m realizing too that I need to really to keep positive in all aspects of my life – especially right now. To fight the hormones and surround myself with positive influences. There is so much good every week that I need to not get bogged down with anything negative. Which reminds me, it’s the little things that feed into all the good in life. Here’s what brought me joy last week:

1. I’m officially on a Mac at work! {yay!!}
2. Fresh flowers from the farmer’s market.
3. Date night with my man – driving range and dinner out.
4. Aromas Day with my friend, Michelle. Love her.

Have a great week friends! Only 1 more week left in August. CRAZY!

An art project

My boss planned a really fun project for us all to work on together that allowed us to reflect on our work and the projects we were so proud of. We turned on the tunes, got our colors out and started stripping and gluing pieces onto a blank board. It was so much fun. And the final piece is pretty gorgeous!!! Art!
