Letterpress, Salinas

Meet Alissa Bell

Last week I got to spend a lovely afternoon with Alissa Bell. She is this wonderful and sweet letterpress artisan, whose story is not only inspiring, but rather enlightening to hear. An accountant turn letterpress proprietor, planned her own letterpress curriculum, bought a letterpress without even knowing how to use it yet, and hasn’t looked back since. She has made quite the name for herself, both locally and nationally. She has the most quaint studio in the hills of Salinas, and was kind enough to host Heather and I for refreshments and a tour of her work space. You can see some of her amazing work on her website, as well as some of her collections to buy.

Our time with Alissa was very encouraging to someone like me who still has so much to learn about paper, photography and design. Here’s a sneak peak at our new business cards she did for us.
It was so great hearing about her adventures and upcoming projects. Some of which my talented friend, Heather, will be collaborating with on.

Spring in Sonoma

As soon as Momma Joy got in, we zipped up to Sonoma to get her birthday celebration started. I found a cute inn for us to stay at in Geyersville. The downtown was on the same street, so we made our way down for some local wine. Every restaurant was packed, so we took the last two seats at the candle-lit bar at Diavola and caught up from the last few months over hot pizza. The next morning brought a little mist, and then sunshine. Our first winery was Stryker. The entrance alone made our hearts {and nostrils} dance over the aroma of the beautiful blooms lining the walkway.

Happy April friends:)  Momma Joy is in town this weekend and we’re having the BEST time. We spent the day in Monterey today at the Aquarium, staring at the jelly fish and mini sharks. Now we’re going to enjoy a Sunday dinner at our cottage, and maybe a game of Scrabble. Last week was a doozy for us, so it’s been nice to get away a little with my Mom and drink some Merlot in Sonoma. But there was a lot of good last week, too. Speaking of, here’s what brought me joy last week:

1. Leftover carrot cake.
2. Game of Thrones is back on —  hollah!
3. A long phone chat with Kristin over at One Pretty Place.
4. New coffee station at the studio!
