A typical Saturday

Don’t you just love Saturdays? I do. It’s our day to run to the grocery, catch up on errands, do something new and end with something low-key. This past Saturday was a typical example. We like to always hit up the Aptos Farmer’s Market at Cabrillo College. It’s pretty wonderful. The pastry tent is the best. This time I tried the almond scone. Rob likes the blueberry carrot cake muffin and local coffee.

After we stocked up on fruit & veggies, we stopped at Rob’s favorite barber.

Our “new” consisted of seeing Shakespeare Santa Cruz at UCSC with my new boss. The weather was absolutely beautiful and every street on the campus gives you an ocean view. We had front-row, center-stage seats for The Man in the Iron Mask. The matinee was staged in the outside amphitheater under the redwoods. We brought lunch and snacked on seasoned almonds. The performances were powerfully delivered and laughable at the right times.

We ended the day at the beach of course. I have my eyes on a new eggplant recipe and Lucy was excited to be out of her cone. It was the perfect end to an eventful day.

What do you like to do on Saturdays?

Sundays

Sunday is officially church and beach day. First we like to grab a coffee at The Abbey, then go to the 11:00 a.m. service at Vintage Faith, our new church. After, we head home, pick up the dogs and go straight to the beach for the afternoon. It’s been our “thing” since we moved here and the beach by our cottage is absolutely beautiful. I read Harry Potter, Lucy rolls around in the sand and Rob and Tacoma play.

Tacoma just keeps going and going. I don’t think I’ve seen him sit down ONCE at the beach.

My favorite part is letting the dogs run towards the beach once they get down the stairs and off their leashes. It’s hilarious how fast they book it to the water. Lucy especially.

On a side note, look how kind our new church is! They sent us a little welcome note and coupon for a free drink at The Abbey.

We’re really enjoying the series on Smart Love right now. What do you like to do on Sundays?

Spring break with Riley

For 7 days Riley was sort of like our child. It was so much fun hanging with him! But what I think was even more fun was FEEDING him! We grilled hamburgers, baked cookies – made pancakes, french toast, ravioli, fish tacos – drank a lot of root beer and hot chocolate – hit up a couple pizza parlors – and snacked on donuts on St. Patty’s day.

Weather wise, I’m thankful we got some sun and sand in on his first three days. But as you know, it rained every day thereafter – up until his last day in which we spent on a windy beach where we flew mini kites.

Here are some of the highlights at the beach:

When nights were rainy the boys played poker, XBOX and watched manly movies. I even got in on some zombie action on the XBOX!

Rob and his model poses…jeez

On St. Patrick’s Day, we ate at the River Cafe and went to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk for bowling and games.

Love you Riley! It was sad to see you go. Thanks for all the great memories and laughs!

From my view

We still don’t have internet so I’m sitting with Rob in Starbucks, watching it rain and hail outside – sipping on a skinny carmel mach – and catching up on all my favorite blogs. We’ve been here two weeks and absolutely love it. Riley was with us this week for his Spring Break so we tried to show him a good time. More on that to come! For friends and fam, here’s what it looks like from my point-of-view lately…(until the rain came).

If it’s nice out, you’ll find us at the beach.

I’m back!

Well, we are in Santa Cruz and all settled in! And I must say, it’s absolutely breathtaking. Crystal-clear, cold mornings, fragrant flower beds, the smell of the ocean, sand in your feet, locally churned ice-cream… Shall I go on?

My Dad and sister made the drive up with us to help us unpack and get situated. And we’re so happy they did. This past weekend is one we’ll certainly remember always. We basically spent every minute together and it was wonderful. Once all the boxes were unpacked, we spent the rest of the weekend driving around. Saturday we spent the day around Monterey Bay. My Dad wanted to see Pebble Beach and the redwoods. So, we did!

Before we did the scenic, 17-mile road drive, we stopped first at the Spanish Bay Inn for cocktails and the ocean view on the patio.

Then we continued on the coastal drive.

We finally got to Pebble Beach. My Dad was ecstatic to be on the 18th hole (or near it).

Before they flew back on Sunday, we went for a walk through the redwoods.

I was sad to see them go. They were so kind to have made the trip up and did so much to help us get settled in to our little cottage in the hills. Did I mention that we can see the ocean as we come out of our driveway? Well, we can. Again, it’s a little surreal up here.

Thanks Pam and Dad for all your help!!!
