Beer Thirty

For St. Patrick’s Day this year I had a hot date with miss Heather. We went to the newest hot spot in Santa Cruz — Beer Thirty Bottle Shop & Pour House, owned by our friends Olive & Craig.  Beer Thirty has 30 rotating taps of craft beer and over 200+ bottles you can stop in, buy and take home. Miss Olive and her Beer Thirty team hand selects every beer they bring in. They’ll find you just the kind of beer you like, and will also recommend something new. They’ll talk to you about the brewing style of each, the flavors, the hops — it all.  Their amazing picnic table, family-style patio is very open and chill. Very Santa Cruz! You can bring your own food in to enjoy with your beer or tasting, and your dog, too! Heather and I enjoyed a platter of different beers to taste and caught up outside on the patio. It was a pretty low-key St. Patty’s Day, which was just fine with me! Check them out on Facebook. . . and if you come visit me, just know we’re probably going here. It’s the best place to taste local beer. Plus I know the owners, and they’re kind of a big deal ;)

{pretty sure “You’re right on time” is the best tagline EVER.}
{congrats, Olive & Craig!!}

Our day with Renee Fox Photography

When Jace was 8 days old, we went over to my friend, Renee’s, home studio to take some newborn pictures! I’ve always wondered how these were done, since most of the newborn pictures I see are of babies sleeping and peaceful, all curled up in weird positions. Miss Renee knew all the secrets to make our little boy cozy and happy, with heated blankets, white noise makers, space heaters and ssshhhing. Maybe a little too well. . . . we sure did have a lot of *accidents*. Baby boy first peed on Daddy. Then, when we moved him to the couch he peed on that, too. We felt so bad! I had requested close-up shots of all his little features and she did just that {even some of his newborn peach fuzz}! Thank you, Renee, for capturing such sweet pictures of our little boy {I promise to include some couch cleaner in our thank you gift!}. I don’t want this newborn phase to end and will cherish these photos for life.  Here are a few of my favorites:

{our little fox!}
 {This was before he pooped all over the cheese cloth and blanket below, hahaha.}
{I love his toesies!}
{Father & son holding hands, so sweet}
{You can find Renee Fox Photography on Facebook. She’s such a wonderful person, and soon to be midwife!}

Woodland Creatures Baby Shower Picnic

My work ladies threw me the most darling woodland creatures baby shower last week. It was the perfect send off into maternity leave! We all walked over to the Mission in our little town of San Juan Bautista and I was pleasantly surprised with woodland creatures, a picnic lunch, gifts and some mood music. It was a beautiful day and fun way to spend my last afternoon. I love the girls I work with so much. Thank you all for showering me!

{the little owl and woodland party favors were adorable — thanks Mom and Heather!}
{it was a warm one in SJB!}

{what does the fox say?!}

{mini pumpkin pies, fruit shish kabobs and carrot cake cup cakes?! These girls must know me ;)}

NYE

For New Year’s Eve I wanted to try out our new olloclip lens {thank you Grandpa Johannes!} to capture our night with friends. The pictures are pretty cool — a little trippy though. Our friends, Michelle & David, invited us over for dinner and game night. It was JUST what we wanted to do for NYE this year. Nothing major, and A LOT better than lying around at our place, watching ANOTHER Breaking Bad episode. Their house is out of an episode of Mad Men. Love all their vintage furniture and finds {like the bar cart below!}. And, their dog, Wally, too.

{they had all kinds of appetizers and cocktails prepared for us, so fun!}

{David came partially as himself, and partially as Ice Cube, lol! The guys were ready to party}

 {dinner time – skirt steak and chicken tacos and home-made {and fat-free} sides. So delicious}

 {games started quickly after dinner — DJ Hero & Mario Kart on the wii. Sure does work your forearms and fingers!}
{the boys decided to get into sport gear with David’s Pistons’ jerseys}
{baby boy!}

 {dessert might have been my favorite part}

 {did I mention Wally is a corgi? coolest.dog.ever.}
Michelle added something a little extra to our New Year’s Eve toast — 12 grapes of “luck” for every month to come in 2014. Supposedly it’s a Latin tradition. If you bite into a sour grape, that month will not be so good. Fortunately, all of our grapes were fresh and juicy — no sour months as far as we can tell! We shared our personal, professional and family resolutions and said goodbye to 2013. We’re so lucky to have these two in our lives. Good people – and so funny. Funny people are the best people to surround yourself with if you ask me ;)

Hope you all had fun reining in the New Year, and celebrated exactly how you wanted to. 2014 is going to bring a lot. I just hope we can handle it. Here we go!

Our Christmas visitor

We had a visitor this past weekend, and oh, how we love visitors!! My friend Sara stopped into town to spend a day with us, so we tried to get in as much as possible, at some of our Santa Cruz hot spots. Starting with Bocci Cellars for lunch and bocci ball – of course!
 {we got our game on — so much fun! Rob looks like he’s carrying fire in this picture, ha}
{after, we went downtown to get her a card started at 99 Bottles of Beer, walk the town and people watch.}
{last stop before heading back to the beach house was Marianne’s, for some serious scoops of ice-cream}
{I ate every drop. Fast. Ha. Did NOT feel well after, and was in an ice-cream coma for the rest of the night.
Thanks Miss Sara for spending the day with us. Love you!}
