Activities for Kids, Holidays

Halloweeeen

IMG_6994Hi friends. Hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween. We had a great day carving pumpkins (Jace didn’t care to touch or help carve, he just watched ;)) and night with family. A friend of ours hand-me-downed a Captain America toddler costume to us, and if Jace wasn’t such a tall boy it would have fit perfectly! We decided to still make it work, even with the high-water leggings. We then found some cheap printed tees at Kohl’s and played the Captain’s biggest fans! Hahahaha. Jace loved his costume and literally flexed his muscles all night. Even out in the front of the house as people were walking by, ha. He just flexed and growled all night long. My family came over to hang out and help us pass out candy. When the trick-or-treaters started to wean out, we went inside and ended the night with a pumpkin beer taste-testing by our MC for the night – Robby J ;) My favorite was Rogue’s Pumpkin Patch Ale and the Punk-n. And that night was officially the night Jace discovered candy .. the bite size Twix and M&Ms were small and OK .. but the Blow Pop changed my sweet boy to a purple-mouthed crazed devil child. It was like a real-life scientific experiment unfolding before our eyes of what sugar does to children. They literally go insane to keep eating it. Jace was crazed and would spaz out if you tried to take it away from it. Which we eventually did. Thankfully we were able to get him interested in something else, like dinner. Well, no more blow pops or suckers for Jace face! All in all, we had a blast hanging out at home and Jace was a total trooper in dressing up so we could selfishly enjoy his cuteness.

Boo!

thumb_IMG_6279_1024Did I scare you?? I hope so! Happy Halloween friends. We’ll be having our own masquerade tonight and passing out candy. I know Jace will get a kick out of it.

P.S. The dollar store has the BEST cucumber and aloe vera night masks (see above obviously). They smell so yummy and make your face feel so soft and fresh after. But you’ll look like a murderer at the same time, hahaha

Activities for Kids, Favorites, Gilbert

We love our Dutch Bros.

thumb_IMG_6932_1024Our favorite thing to do on the weekend is get up early and take the bikes to Dutch Brothers here in Gilbert. We live right down the block from one. They sure do treat us well there. And they’re always so happy and full of life. I get the vanilla iced latte, Rob gets an iced coffee with a triple shot and honey .. and Mr. Jace gets the strawberry smoothie, with extra whip ;) After we wait in line and dance to the techno music, we normally take a few sips  and then continue our bike ride down to Gilbert for the splash pad. It’s truly the best way to get charged up for the weekend if you ask me. And the sky was so pretty this day. Not too hot or sunny, just the right amount of sweat, ha. If you don’t already follow Dutch Bros. on Instagram, you should.  I follow their Arizona Insta too.

Jace & Me

Day care was closed!!!

It was October break this week here in Phoenix, which means school was out and my main day care was closed! Which I’m A-OK with!! I immediately planned two days where I could be home with Jace and on Monday I captured almost every hour of our wonderful day together. I felt like a stay-at-home-mommy and it was incredible. We made smoothies in the morning, baked muffins, went to the Chop Shop with Daddy for lunch, stopped in quick to Tempe Camera to drop my lens off, danced to the Beach Boys, got out the Halloween decorations, met Grandma for shaved ice and then ended our fabulous day with Sarah and James at Vertuccio Farms. I ran this kid ragged all day, and I think he only napped for like 25 minutes. I’m definitely finding out how important it is to have things planned with a toddler. They get bored easily and need to be engaged with something, almost constantly, ha. So I made sure we were out and about, eating and playing a lot. It was so nice to have time with little boy this past week. I still can’t get enough of him.

Playing around with my 50mm lens, finally!

IMG_1022IMG_1020IMG_1000IMG_1003IMG_1005Miss Heather bought me a “nifty fifty” 50mm lens for my birthday .. last year. And ridiculous me just finally got it out to start playing around with it! (Plus, I broke my other lens and it’s currently being held at Tempe Camera, so this is all I got right now!) I’m still a long ways out from knowing how to get every shot perfect, but I felt pretty pleased with these here. Might as well get a close-up of Jace’s rash-y chin, hahahaha. I tell ya, I just can’t get rid of it. Poor boy is such a drooler, still! Even at 20 months.

More picture-taking practicing to come! Oh, and also .. if you are a photographer yourself, what other lens do you like? Do you have a nifty fifty lens?
