One day, on Pinterest or Instagram (where ever) I saw this cactus mural wallpaper. And then I realized that it cost over $400 to purchase enough for one wall. Being who I am, I couldn’t stomach spending that much money on wall paper. Or just really, PAPER. So, I decided to recruit my creative friend Kristin to help me do it myself, by hand! We first tried a stencil on cardboard, but that was going to take all day. Then I decided to just go at it by hand completely. We mixed some of the paint and then started swirling and sponging and dabbing paints over my sketched cactus spears!
After we did the first coat, I went back over it myself with some of the same color, but shaded darker and lighter, and tried to get artsy blending shadows onto the cacti spears. This was fairly frustrating since I really didn’t know what the heck I was doing – lol! At some point I just had to stop because I was starting to make it look worse.
I called it quits and simply put the crib in front of it, thankfully hiding some of the imperfections (!). I sort of love it, hate it, but for now it’s staying on the wall. Plus, I’d hate to ask Rob to repaint the entire wall after all my drama with it, hahaha. We’ll see if it distracts the baby.
Some of the other elements I’ve added include our little rustic “W” for Walker and my new Goodwill Redesign rocking chair find. It was the most perfect rose color, I couldn’t resist.
