Cheryl, reads

What I’m reading

What are you guys reading these days? I’m actually reading a lot. Which is new for me. Instead of keeping my face in my phone at night or on my lunch breaks, I’ve been trying to put it in a book. Here are some of the books I’ve finished thus far or are currently reading. Starting with American Housewife, by Helen Ellis. Such a funny and lighthearted read. I highly recommend it.  I also always have the latest Sunset magazine in my possession. Makes for good reading around the house, too.

IMG_1465I also tried to get through this book. I’ve read the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, so this rendition of that, but about who you spend your time with, just seemed right. Plus, I need help letting go of some things (or people, really ..). And it just made sense to pull it out while eating a Whopper from BK >D Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish it because I just can’t read something with the f-word in it that many times. Come on. Do it but do it well; we obviously get it!

IMG_1471Another one I read was Shoe Dog, and OMG! One of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s a memoir of Phil Knight, the mastermind and creator of Nike. It’s so colorful and easy to read, it’ll play like a movie in your head while you read it. So good!

And lastly, Pretty Girls. A friend of mine at work got into this kick of reading every book wtih the word “girl” in it. I also read The Luckiest Girl Alive because of this friend, too, and had already read Girl on the Train.  This one I couldn’t put down. I read it in about 4 days which is a sort of a big deal for me. It’s so dark and twisted, but so good. Some of it fairly predictable, but still suspenseful, every page of the way. Might be my pregnany hormones, but I totally cried at the end.

img_2030In case you’re interested, here’s my reading list for the Fall >>>

img_2083Present Over Perfect, by one of my favorite authors, Shauna Niequist. I loved her daily devotional book (and keep in out on my kitchen counter to also cook with), and am excited to see what I pull from this one. Being present is something I really want to get better at. And out of my phone, in case I haven’t already mentioned that.

A friend gave me Wildflower to read. I love Drew Barrymore so I thought I’d start it. It’s last on my list to read but definitely included.

The Happiest Toddler on the Block. I of course read the original book by this author, but I just heard about this “toddlerese” thing and want to try it out (speaking toddler??). I’ll let you know how it goes.

And because Game of Thrones is over until next June (NOT OKAY), I’ve decided to pick up the series again. I’ve only finished the first book, so I’ll be starting again with the second book in the series. Will be something for me to keep reading until the last season comes out, which will be fun.  I also just want to nerd out on Game of Thrones some more, which takes reading all the books. The first book was amazing, so I look forward to more good writing.
