Easter Joy

Our Easter was so wonderful, and very special to us. Maybe because we started a new tradition, or were so moved by the message at Vintage Faith on Sunday. I can’t stop singing “You are my joy, my joy” by Josh Fox. It’s so true.

I was feeling something extra delicious for Easter. . . Carrot cake is one of my favorite desserts of ALL time, yet I’ve never made one. So, since we were spending Easter just the two of us, I decided to go all out and make it from scratch. I used Joy the Baker’s Kitchen Sink Carrot Cake recipe {including her cream cheese frosting}, and  somehow followed it perfectly because it was seriously the best carrot cake I’ve ever had — and I made it! I think I just started a new Johannes tradition! We couldn’t stop laughing at the goodness that was going on in our mouths.

Thought these were very Easter-themed and Springy. We missed our families a lot this Easter, but I’m glad we had each other, along with good food, cake, prayer and snuggles to console us. A great Easter in my book.

Happy Easter friends! We went to an amazing service this morning at our church to celebrate the rising, and since we got home have been cooking and baking – – just for us two. Our cottage smells incredible right now – a chuck roast in the crock pot, home made carrot cake baking. .  . candles burning . . mashed potatoes to come soon, clean house, dogs are lounging. Today is the perfect reminder of how blessed we truly are. How sovereign God’s love is. Every new day is a gift, and I couldn’t feel more thankful for getting to enjoy this life wtih Rob. Hope you all had a nice weekend — here’s what brought me joy last week:
1. New coffee cups at the office.
2. A beach run with Heather.
3. Flamin hot Cheeto spicy tuna. AMAZING.
4. New business cards by Alissa Bell!

A gift to inspire: The Artist’s Way

Knowing creative people {like Heather and my boss}, brings new things to my attention all the time. New blogs, new weekend projects, new designs, new radio stations, new books. One item that has really struck my fancy is the book, The Artist’s Way — A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity, by Julia Cameron. An oldie, but goodie, this book leads you through a comprehensive program to rediscover or connect with the creative energies of the universe – and to help you gain {or re-gain} artistic confidence and productivity. If any of your creative friends are in a funk, give this to give her a *boost*. A nice add-on is a personalized journal for her “Morning Pages” {one of the tasks in the book}. I’m actually going to read this myself! As always, the calligraphy was done by my friend, Heather.

That view

I love riding bikes in San Francisco, mainly because of the view. Pretty sure my friend Dominique loved it too:)

Haight & Hayes

My friend Dominique came out last weekend for a girls getaway, so I did what I do best — plan us a weekend full of fun activities, starting with San Francisco. Because Dominique is a total fashionista, I made sure we hit up the Haight-Ashbury district for some thrift stores, and then some late dinner in Hayes Valley. But not before some brunch {and early dessert} at the Waterbar.

Dominique in her element above — shopping! She found some great things. We could have spent an entire DAY on Haight street. AMAZING vintage finds and shopping. We ended the day with dinner in the up and coming Hayes neighborhood. As we were trying to find parking, we kept eyeing all these fabulous restaurants to eat at. We must have walked into 4 different restaurants trying to decide which one to eat at — there were so many to choose from! And every one smelled so good. We decided on Absinthe, because Dom wanted a dirty martini and me some red meat! It was really great. We had a window seat, and chatted into the night. The perfect end to our fabulous day in San Francisco.
