I did not plan ahead a lot this time around, including getting a newborn shoot set up. Thankfully the hospital had a First Day photo team out to take photos and although the price wasn’t all that ideal, it was worth getting shots of Walker’s first day with us. I’m so happy we got photos of just him, too, because his birth day is very special to us. Those first 24 hours are so precious and I’m glad we had someone there to take pictures, even if it wasn’t myself. I’m totally going to frame the one of Rob holding him, it’s so beautiful and so simple. I’m still going to try to get some shots of Jace with Walker, or even myself, but for now, these are lovely.

Well, our second born is here! Walker Jared Johannes! Born Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 6:27pm, weighing in at 9lb 1oz and 21.25″ inches long. Before my memory escapes me, I wanted to document my birth experience so I can remember it, just as I did for Jace’s birth.
One day, on Pinterest or Instagram (where ever) I saw this cactus mural wallpaper. And then I realized that it cost over $400 to purchase enough for one wall. Being who I am, I couldn’t stomach spending that much money on wall paper. Or just really, PAPER. So, I decided to recruit my creative friend Kristin to help me do it myself, by hand! We first tried a stencil on cardboard, but that was going to take all day. Then I decided to just go at it by hand completely. We mixed some of the paint and then started swirling and sponging and dabbing paints over my sketched cactus spears!
This week I walked in to my Monthly Marketing Meeting to a big surprise. A baby shower! I really don’t do all that well with surprises, so when everything started to process in my pregnacy brain, I teared up. My team is made up of over 20 people and they all worked together to put this on. There was even an agenda for the meeting so I came thinking I was having to present on a couple topics. They had a big Chick-fil-a breakfast waiting for me, with sausage biscuits, hashbrowns and fruit .. cactus cupcakes, gift baskets, diapers galore (inlcuding an awesome diaper 4-wheeler!), and succulents every where. In case you haven’t heard, my theme for this baby is southwest and catci, so they definitely brought their A-game. We played a fun baby picture match game, which was a hoot! It was a blast trying to figure out who was was who! And some other fun baby shower games, that applied to both men and women. I was so taken back by how thoughtful everything was, and the entire hour and a half was dedicated to eating and gifts and hanging out! And now I feel a little more prepared for baby Walker. And things feel more real now, too, I guess, now that I actually have diapers, ha! I sure do love the team I work with, and feel so blessed to know them. Even my CEO stopped in for breakfast and to give me some advice. All around great morning!
