Part I: A cactus wall for my southwest nursery

One day, on Pinterest or Instagram (where ever) I saw this cactus mural wallpaper. And then I realized that it cost over $400 to purchase enough for one wall. Being who I am, I couldn’t stomach spending that much money on wall paper. Or just really, PAPER. So, I decided to recruit my creative friend Kristin to help me do it myself, by hand! We first tried a stencil on cardboard, but that was going to take all day. Then I decided to just go at it by hand completely. We mixed some of the paint and then started swirling and sponging and dabbing paints over my sketched cactus spears!

My view lately

IMG_2748Hi friends. How are you? Me .. I woke up at 4:30a this morning, mind racing. Mostly about all my projects at work that are really lagging and the fact that I have less than 10 weeks to get everything wrapped up and handed off. But outside of work, my view lately has been pretty great. Starting with that Arizona sky lately! It’s been raining on and off for over a week now, with sunny and cloudy afternoons, which makes for great baseball playing outside in our backyard.

A pillow project

img_2687 Oh, hello there! Thought I’d post another DIY project I tackled recently — pillows! I bought this Florida-bohemian inspired fabric thinking I’d use it for our bar stool cushions we inherited with our house, but ended up loving the natural cushions I discovered underneath the weird fabric covers that I was left with this fairly expensive square yard of fabric. Only $35, but still fairly expensive when you don’t know what to do with it! After a few months of deciding, I went with new pillows for our couch! I used the pillow stuffing from two other old pillows I had in a closet and then hopped on over to my friend Kristin’s house to borrow her sewing machine. We made quite the crafternoon out of it and spent the time chatting it up (and teaching me how to use a sewing machine). I felt like I was in JoAnn’s going through a how-to-sew class. She walked me through everything but then let me do all the dirty work. I just love her and how much patience she had for me!

WRAPPING up the weekend

Only 7 more days ’til Christmas! And I think I’m about ready. Rob and I finished up almost all of our shopping this weekend, and what a great feeling that is. I think one of my favorite things to do is wrap gifts so I got my wrapping on all weekend. It’s so fun wrapping up something you’ve picked out for someone else (whether they asked for it or not, ha!). It was pretty chilly for us around these parts, which we always love (we like the months here when we’re not sweating, can you tell?)  We’ve also been watching all of our favorite Christmas movies, like Hook, The Holiday, and The Santa Claus. The holiday cards are starting to arrive, our tree still smells good, which is a HUGE win (!) and the Christmas tunes are always on around the house.  I’m sure I’ll be posting more soon, but until then, here’s what brought me joy last week:

1. Fresh, hot cookies, right out of the oven. Need I say more?!img_25102. Seeing Jace interact with Santa. He gave him lots of high fives, a hug and asked for a firetruck for Christmas. Too cute.3. My new Warby Parkers arrived this week!!! I love how big they are for my blind eyes!  cher-joy4. And lastly, a wonderful girl date and gift exchange with my friend Kristin who I love so much. I SOOOO needed our mani/pedi date and am feeling ready for Christmas now, all painted and massaged. img_2529

October shenanigans

img_1991Even though it’s October in these parts, it’s still pretty hot out. We’re trying to keep our cool, if you know what I mean. We’ve already had a very busy Fall. With October comes Fall break, where Jace gets to take a break from daycare and hang out with family, and me! All I can say is our days and weekends have been jam packed with activities, park dates and road trips! I feel almost hung over.  Continue Reading
