Family, Friends, Jace

This summer

How in the world can it be September already. Where did this summer go?? I feel like I haven’t been documenting enough on this here blog. A blog I truly cherish and look back on. So, what have we been up to? So much that it’s a blur. Just this week I was thinking we hadn’t really done a lot this summer, compared to the last two summers here in California, but we really have. Looking back, no wonder it’s September. These last few months of summer have been jam packed. What was I thinking?! Ha. Here’s a photo explosion of our busy summer of friends, family, weekends and travel:

{We kicked off summer with a beach day with friends. We barbecued, played in the sand; passed the babies around and just visited until it was time to go to Marianne’s for ice-cream.}

I’m at the tail end of my Sunday and feeling exhausted. Oh, I know why. Mr. Jace face. Sleeping in on the weekends doesn’t happen anymore. Even napping is getting rare with Jace, a.k.a. party all day {sleep all night {why am I complaining?}}. Weekends are so wonderful that I end of trying to do too much. And with a baby it makes the weekend all that more exhausting, ha. We have a busy week ahead of us, a lot of client meetings for me, and an anniversary for Rob at work. I head to Arizona to see my family and friends later this week and am super anxious. I can’t wait to pass Jace all around and see friends. Should be a great time. Well, even with little sleep I got {my own fault!}, here’s what brought me joy last week:

1. Late nights in bed together. Me – half reading my new book, half doing my Intro to Digital Media class homework; him – looking for rentals.
2.  My Friday with Jace. I’m officially part-time and Fridays are my new day to stay home {and try not to work, ha}. I only cried twice ;)
3. Rob and I enjoyed a date night at the new Cantine in downtown Aptos to celebrate our 14 yr anniversary! 14 years. Holy crap. 14 years ago he held hands with me on the way to our first class, lacing our fingers a certain way, and asked me to be his girlfriend. He is still that cheesy to this day, which I’m so thankful for.
4. Sunday morning in bed with my boys, not wanting to get out of bed, wishing I could just spend all day in bed. That sky light is great, but sort of the devil at the same time.
Have a wonderful week friends!

Hi friends. It’s an absolutely gorgeous Sunday here in Santa Cruz and we are loving California more than ever. I have a meatloaf in the oven, Miranda Lambert’s new CD on repeat and baby boy is napping. We’ve done absolutely nothing but clean this weekend. Add some yard work, grocery shopping and dog walking, and that pretty much sums up our two days off.  I’m going to a part-time schedule starting this week, so I’m pretty excited {and a little stressed, seeing that this California lifestyle isn’t the cheapest}. You don’t realize where your money goes until you actually sit down and look at your bank statement. That is one thing we’ve always been bad at. Budgeting. We have a serious love for food, and it’s literally breaking us. Today I actually meal planned before we went to the store, and we actually checked out UNDER our spending goal. It was a big success for the Johannes household, ha. I have a lot of catching up to do here and will have some more to post this week. I’m already getting excited for Fall and the trips we have coming up. Some local, some out of state. It’s going to be an exciting few months leading up to . . Christmas! In other news, I’ve also signed up for a Digital Media certificate program at the local community college {graphic design}. One class at a time, and in an area of skill I really want more knowledge around. And soccer picks up again this week. Goodness, why do I do this to myself? hahaha Well, here’s what brought me joy last week, in case you’re at all interested:

1. Jace’s basset hound onesie from our favorite basset hound, Gus {& Sandy}.
2. Reading before bed. This book is serious amazing.
3. Starbucks date with my men.
4. Homemade unsweetened applesauce from our Aunt. So yummy. Now I’m inspired to make apple sauce. How does one do that? . . . Fall project perhaps?

Jace

Jace at 6 months

This boy is what life is about. I’m still so in love with the baby stage and am eating him up. He is well over 6 months now and doing a lot! Sitting up, rolling around, tummy timing all the time, slapping, pulling, holding things, sneaking his thumb in his mouth sometimes . . bouncing around and kicking his feet. He’s going to love being mobile once he gets there. He’s doing this cute nose crinkle thing when he smiles his cheese smile at us, or before he’s about to cry. He’s exploring his voice a lot more, likes to try to copy our noises and is all about his toys. He observes everything and waits anxiously to lock eyes with someone so he can give them a big smile. He is doing good at daycare {playing lots} and still sleeping all through the night. He sleeps in 10 different positions at night, preferably on his belly or side. He rolls around all night. Sometimes we have to go in there to make sure he’s breathing, because who sleeps on their face, right?! He is such a loon. I think he’s the absolute cutest when he sleeps, especially in his car seat. I have a hard time focusing on the road when I could be looking in my mirror at his sweet little face, so peaceful. {But, of course I keep it together and get us around as safely as I can!}. His giggle is still contagious as ever and cannot wait until his Dr. appt this week so I can see how long this boy is. He seems so long to me! Bigger hands and toesies now, almost growing out of his boat shoes, already {what?!}! I will be saving those Sperry’s for life. OK, that’s about it for now… Did I annoy you enough?! hahaha

Happy Sunday friends. Remember Cher Joy? Well, I’m trying to pick it up again and share a little joy from my week. Today is going to be gorgeous and we’re heading out to Wilder Ranch. Maybe a little mani for me, some groceries for the week, prep for more visitors to come this Thursday, a nap with the little boy, walk the dogs, get ready for another week. As I get older I realize how fast life is picking up. A month as an adult flies by. The weeks are soaring. Jace is already almost 7 months. Slow down world. Anyway, here’s what brought me joy last week:

1. The free pancake breakfast after the Race through the Redwoods in Felton.
2. A clear week, with NOTHING on the calendar. So invigorating.
3. Working from home on Thursdays with my Jace. Going great so far.
4. Night time, bath time with Jace face.

Have a great week friends!
