Halloweeeen

IMG_6994Hi friends. Hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween. We had a great day carving pumpkins (Jace didn’t care to touch or help carve, he just watched ;)) and night with family. A friend of ours hand-me-downed a Captain America toddler costume to us, and if Jace wasn’t such a tall boy it would have fit perfectly! We decided to still make it work, even with the high-water leggings. We then found some cheap printed tees at Kohl’s and played the Captain’s biggest fans! Hahahaha. Jace loved his costume and literally flexed his muscles all night. Even out in the front of the house as people were walking by, ha. He just flexed and growled all night long. My family came over to hang out and help us pass out candy. When the trick-or-treaters started to wean out, we went inside and ended the night with a pumpkin beer taste-testing by our MC for the night – Robby J ;) My favorite was Rogue’s Pumpkin Patch Ale and the Punk-n. And that night was officially the night Jace discovered candy .. the bite size Twix and M&Ms were small and OK .. but the Blow Pop changed my sweet boy to a purple-mouthed crazed devil child. It was like a real-life scientific experiment unfolding before our eyes of what sugar does to children. They literally go insane to keep eating it. Jace was crazed and would spaz out if you tried to take it away from it. Which we eventually did. Thankfully we were able to get him interested in something else, like dinner. Well, no more blow pops or suckers for Jace face! All in all, we had a blast hanging out at home and Jace was a total trooper in dressing up so we could selfishly enjoy his cuteness.

Boo!

thumb_IMG_6279_1024Did I scare you?? I hope so! Happy Halloween friends. We’ll be having our own masquerade tonight and passing out candy. I know Jace will get a kick out of it.

P.S. The dollar store has the BEST cucumber and aloe vera night masks (see above obviously). They smell so yummy and make your face feel so soft and fresh after. But you’ll look like a murderer at the same time, hahaha

Halloween in these parts

thumb_IMG_6845_1024Hi friends. It’s officially time for Halloween things! It’s still in the 90s here, but that isn’t stopping me from planning out some fall adventures for us. I don’t have a lot of Halloween decorations, but I do love my vintage hat and gloves; I get them out every year. Plus, I can always rely on Trader for cute pumpkin porcelain vases with succulents. Here’s our plans for this Halloween season:

  • Vertuccio Farms .. it was such a blast!
  • Schnepf Farms  .. next weekend!
  • Pumpkin carving (no pineapples this year, just pumpkins with Jace!)
  • Volunteering at the Great Pumpkin Festival at the Desert Botanical Garden
  • Then a masquerade at our Casa, passing out candy and eating charcuterie (found our masks at the Dollar store!)
  • And don’t forget movie night .. I can’t let this month go by without watching Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic
  • We’ve also been busy making some of our favorite fall dishes, including turkey chilibeef stew and pumpkin spice muffins

What are some of your favorite Halloween traditions??

4th of July in Santa Cruz + a video

I finally compiled all of the video footage from our trip to Santa Cruz for the 4th of July. It was so wonderful going back to our old stomping grounds and seeing all of our friends. New babies, new stories and new experiences for little man. He was so excited to see the beach, it was adorable. He didn’t want to leave that ocean. What I didn’t include in the video was him crying when we took him out of the water, hahahaha. I sure do miss those trees and the smell of the ocean. Miss it so much it hurts. And of course the people. They’re the best part. Love you girls (and guys!) so much. It was truly one of the best 4th of Julys ever.

Our curious toddler

IMG_6029My friend Heather put this photo collage together for me from the 4th. It’s the perfect example of our curious little toddler. This little 18 month old of mine is testing his limits in all kinds of new ways. He’s beginning to get easily frustrated too and wants to slap or hit. Not sure where that came from, but I guess when you have adults holding you back from doing things and going places you want to go or sticking your finger in electrical sockets or hearing “no”, you get a little upset. But more than anything, he’s just super curious. One little thing will lead to another. From dental floss and doggy doors to bathtub drains and fish bowls. His hands are everywhere. Keeps us on our toes for sure! And his little hands are starting to reach further too, including onto the stove! I felt horrible when I wasn’t on top of it one night until it was too late and he had touched a hot pan. Little boy got a small burn but it was nothing we couldn’t remedy fairly quickly with some ice packs and aloe vera. Time to start using the back burners. He’s my curious little boy and I love it. I just hope I can teach him patience and manners along the way.
